Autologous Iliac Bone Graft Compared with Biphasic Hydroxyapatite and Calcium Sulfate Cement for the Treatment of Bone Defects in Tibial Plateau Frac…

2019

Background Bone-graft substitutes are commonly used for the augmentation of traumatic bone defects in tibial plateau fractures. However, their clinical performance compared with that of autologous bone-grafting, the gold standard in bone defect reconstruction, still remains under debate. This study investigates the differences in quality of life, pain, and radiographic outcomes in the treatment of tibial plateau fracture-associated bone defects with either autologous bone grafts or a bioresorbable hydroxyapatite and calcium sulfate cement (CERAMENT BONE VOID FILLER [CBVF]; BONESUPPORT). Methods In this study, 135 patients with acute depression and split-depression fractures of the proximal …

FisioCovid

2021

[EN] In the study plans of the first years of the degrees in Health Sciences it is usual to include basic and general subjects that are not very motivating for students with a more specific academic profile. Specifically, in the Degree in Optics and Optometry at the University of Valencia we encountered this problem when teaching General Physiology, a subject included within the Human and Ocular Physiology subject in the first year. Based on this background, we have considered developing the “FisioCovid” project as a pedagogical tool due to its condition of general interest to the population. The objective of this teaching innovation project is is to take advantage of the media and scientif…

Vitamin C supplementation does not improve hypoxia-induced erythropoiesis.

2012

Martinez-Bello,Vladimir E., Fabian Sanchis-Gomar, Daniel Martinez-Bello, Gloria Olaso-Gonzalez, Mari Carmen Gomez-Cabrera, and Jose Viña. Vitamin C Supplementation Does Not Improve Hypoxia-Induced Erythropoiesis. High Alt Med Biol 13:269–274, 2012.—Hypoxia induces reactive oxygen species production. Supplements with antioxidant mixtures can compensate for the decline in red cell membrane stability following intermittent hypobaric hypoxia by decreasing protein and lipid oxidation. We aimed to determine whether supplementation with vitamin C is implicated in the regulation of erythropoiesis and in the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, and also whether antioxidant supplementation prevents…

Open Access Survey - The Summary : Survey of Academic Attitudes towards Open Access and Institutional Repositories

2012

The University of Jyväskylä aims to be an institution advancing free scholarly information. To support this the Rector has recommended researchers, starting from the beginning of 2011, to save the final draft (aka post-print) files of their research articles in TUTKA register at the same time when recording the relating data. By the end of the year 2011 was seen that only 200 articles had been posted. It became necessary to find out what researchers generally think about the Open Access issues. The results indicate that Open Access is received very positively amont the researchers. OA thinking is not, however, reflected as strong in researcher's own publishing activity. It is obvious that a…
